On Friday, May 15, 2026, WLOX reported that the arraignment of former Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson will be rescheduled due to a judge recusing himself from the case.
Judge Leon Roche’s recusal marks the second time he has stepped away from the case. Several other judges have also recused themselves. It is now being questioned whether the case will be moved out of the parish if every judge at the Criminal Court decides to recuse themselves.
Hutson faces a 30-count indictment, along with her former CFO, Bianka Brown, who is a co-defendant in the case. Brown also faces indictment and walked out a side door without responding to questions. The charges stem from a 10-inmate jailbreak that occurred almost one year ago.
Hutson faces counts of malfeasance in office, fraud, and obstruction of justice, along with Brown.
After a court appearance, Hutson walked out of the courtroom with several people, including family members, and declined to comment, only saying good morning.
