On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Lehigh Acres Citizen reported that The Florida Bar Board of Governors is actively seeking candidates to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee. The position, set to be filled during the Board of Governors’ meeting on March 13, is open to lawyer applicants who are members of The Florida Bar and are in good standing.

The selected attorney will serve a four-year term, commencing on July 1, 2026, and concluding on June 30, 2030. As part of the 12-member committee, the appointee will contribute to rendering approximately 20 to 25 written advisory opinions annually. These opinions guide judges and judicial candidates on the application of the Code of Judicial Conduct to specific instances of contemplated judicial and non-judicial conduct.

The Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee convenes once a year during The Florida Bar’s Annual Convention, with attendance being strongly encouraged. However, the majority of the committee’s work is conducted remotely through email and phone conferences. In addition to providing advisory opinions, the committee is responsible for organizing and conducting judicial campaign conduct forums during election years.

The deadline for submitting applications is close-of-business on Monday, February 2. It is important to note that resumes will not be accepted as substitutes for the required application form. The Board of Governors will thoroughly review all submitted applications and may conduct telephone or personal interviews with potential candidates.

Interested individuals can obtain the Application for Special Appointment by downloading it online or by contacting the Bar headquarters at 850-561-3127. Completed applications must be sent to the Executive Director, The Florida Bar, at 651 East Jefferson St., Tallahassee, Florida, 32399-2300, or submitted via email.
