On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, abc27 reported that suspended Dauphin County Judge Sonya McKnight is set to face trial for attempted murder charges related to a February shooting incident. The trial is scheduled to begin on April 7, 2025, at 9 a.m. in front of a judge from outside Dauphin County, as indicated by court records.
McKnight has been accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend in the head while he was asleep at a residence located in the 200 block of Saddle Ridge Drive. According to police reports, the shooting occurred around 12:45 a.m. The victim sustained severe injuries, resulting in blindness in one eye, as the bullet trajectory traveled from the right side of his face, passed just beneath his eyes, and exited on the left.
Following the incident, McKnight reportedly called emergency dispatch to report that her ex-boyfriend was unable to see. During subsequent police questioning, she allegedly provided misleading information regarding the events that transpired. Furthermore, forensic tests indicated that McKnight tested positive for gunshot residue.
McKnight was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault by the Susquehanna Township Police. After posting bail set at $300,000 in February, she has been released from custody.
