On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, 10WBNS reported that two Morrow County judges stepped down from overseeing a high-profile murder case involving Brian Michael Wilson, who is charged with the fatal shooting of Deputy Daniel Sherrer.
According to court records, Judges Robert C. Hickson Jr. and Tom C. Elkin filed documents to recuse themselves. Hickson cited a personal and business relationship with the Sherrer family, while Elkin noted his prior involvement with the case’s search warrant, disqualifying him from presiding.
Wilson faces 14 charges, including two counts of aggravated murder, to which he pleaded not guilty during his court appearance. Prosecutor Andrew Wick has stated he intends to pursue the death penalty if Wilson is convicted.
The shooting occurred on May 26, when Sherrer responded to a domestic disturbance call on County Road 26, where authorities allege Wilson shot him.
Wilson’s bond was raised to $9 million from an initial $5 million. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 25, with the trial date to be determined.
Sherrer, a four-year veteran of the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, was laid to rest at Marion Cemetery a week after his death. He is survived by his parents and fiancée.
