On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Law&Crime reported that Ryan Routh was found guilty on all counts related to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at one of his golf courses last year. The verdict came after a Fort Pierce jury deliberated for two hours.

The trial has drawn criticism, particularly towards U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who presided over the case. Sara Routh, Ryan Routh’s daughter, voiced strong objections to Cannon’s involvement, labeling her as “obviously biased” due to her prior association with Trump. Sara Routh pointed to Cannon’s previous dismissal of Trump’s classified documents case as evidence of bias.

Sara Routh’s accusations are not the first time Cannon has faced such claims; similar allegations arose following the Mar-a-Lago case dismissal. According to WPLG, Sara Routh stated that Cannon should have recused herself from the trial from the beginning.

The accusations of bias stem from Cannon’s handling of Trump’s classified documents case last year. Critics argue that her decisions in that case demonstrate a partiality towards the president, making her impartiality in the Ryan Routh trial questionable.

Throughout the trial, Cannon repeatedly instructed Ryan Routh, who represented himself, to adhere to the rules of evidence and proper court procedure. WPLG reported that Routh, a former construction worker, appeared confused and flustered during the proceedings. Sara Routh expressed concern over the court’s repeated rejection of her father’s statements and questions for his witnesses.

Prosecutors argued that the evidence clearly demonstrated Ryan Routh’s intent to kill Donald Trump, stating that he “almost got away” with it. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Browne told the jury that there was no reasonable doubt that Routh was the perpetrator.

Ryan Routh was charged with attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and multiple firearm violations. The Justice Department alleged that he set up a sniper “hide” at a West Palm Beach golf course with the intent to target Trump.

The accusations also included the alleged penning of a letter by Routh containing threats toward Israel. Sara Routh has denied the accusations and demanded proof of the letter and the alleged threats against neighbors.

Sara and her brother, Adam Routh, traveled from Hawaii to Fort Pierce, Florida, for the trial’s conclusion.
