On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, KOMC reported that Boone County Judge Robert Hathaway resigned from his position amidst charges of Abuse of Office and Reporting by Public Employee for Loss of Public Funds.
Hathaway’s resignation comes after an investigation revealed his alleged inaction regarding the misuse of a county credit card by the former director of the Boone County Office of Emergency Management, Daniel Bolen. Hathaway was arrested on February 27 and subsequently released on bail, pleading not guilty to the charges.
The Boone County Quorum Court has scheduled a special meeting for April 9 at 6:00 pm at the Boone County Office of Emergency Management Building on Prospect Ave in Harrison to address the vacancy. During the meeting, the Quorum Court will consider a resolution to formally declare the vacancy and then consider appointing a replacement to serve the remainder of Hathaway’s term, which was set to conclude at the end of the year.
Interested individuals must apply for the County Judge position by Wednesday, April 1. Hathaway, who was already set to leave office at the end of his 12-year tenure, will now be replaced sooner than expected. The upcoming primary election runoff will determine who will take over as County Judge on January 1, with current Assistant Judge Tyler Gentry facing off against Bobby Woods.
