On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, MyNewsLA.com reported that Judge Tamara Hall of the Inglewood Superior Court recused herself from a case involving Steven Tyler, the frontman of Aerosmith, one day before a scheduled hearing on a motion to dismiss. The motion concerns a lawsuit filed by a woman who claims Tyler had a sexual relationship with her beginning when she was 16 and he was 25.
Judge Hall cited a section of the state Code of Civil Procedure, stating her recusal was in the interests of justice, according to a minute order prepared by her clerk on Monday. The case has now been reassigned to Judge Patricia A. Young of the Torrance Superior Court. A case management conference is scheduled for October 15.
The lawsuit, initially filed in December 2022, alleges that Tyler convinced the plaintiff’s mother to grant him guardianship over her in 1973, when she was 16 years old. This arrangement allegedly allowed her to live with him and engage in a sexual relationship that lasted approximately three years. The suit further states that in 1975, the plaintiff became pregnant, making Tyler both her legal guardian and the father of her unborn child. The plaintiff, who is Catholic, alleges that she later had an abortion under pressure from Tyler.
According to the suit, the plaintiff eventually left what she describes as the “music and drug-addled world” seeking to escape the “sexualized culture” created by Tyler and the music industry. The suit also states that she later started a family and became active in her faith.
Tyler’s attorneys have filed a motion to dismiss the remaining claims, arguing that only one claim has a connection to California. They contend that the other claims relate to alleged conduct that occurred in Massachusetts, Oregon, and Washington, where the statute of limitations has expired.
