On Friday, April 25, 2025, Hoodline reported that Florida Circuit Judge Brett M. Waronicki was arrested on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in Martin County. The arrest, which occurred on Wednesday night, also involved two other individuals, Wendy Ditroia and Christopher Greenman, who are facing cocaine possession charges.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Waronicki, who serves in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court, allegedly refused a blood-alcohol test during the traffic stop, leading to his booking for DUI. Ditroia, 43, and Greenman were also charged with drug-related offenses, with Greenman facing an additional count of drug paraphernalia possession.
Details about the exact time and location of the incident were not disclosed by the sheriff’s spokesperson, Christine Christofek. However, the arrest has generated significant attention in the Treasure Coast community, where residents are now aware of the judge’s legal troubles.
TCPalm’s investigation into the backgrounds of Ditroia and Greenman revealed that Ditroia has no prior criminal record in Martin County. In contrast, Greenman has a history that includes a no contest plea to a DUI charge from March 2024, with some charges against him either dismissed or dropped.
Waronicki, appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2020, has held significant judicial responsibilities, overseeing civil jury trials as well as substance abuse and mental health court cases. His judicial career began as an assistant public defender in Fort Pierce, and he later became a partner at the firm Wiederhold, Kummerlen & Waronicki, P.A. Waronicki was elected to a six-year term without opposition just three years after his appointment, making his current legal issues particularly notable. He was released on bond the following morning, before 8 a.m.
