On Sunday, March 2, 2025, the Tampa Free Press reported that a Florida judge may face a public reprimand due to accusations of bias against the State Attorney’s Office. The Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) has recommended this reprimand for Orange County Judge Martha Adams after an investigation into her behavior.

The JQC’s findings indicated that Judge Adams exhibited “biased, impatient, undignified, and discourteous behavior” towards the staff of the Ninth Circuit State Attorney’s Office, which serves both Orange and Osceola counties. The commission highlighted instances where Adams made inappropriate remarks, including referring to an assistant state attorney as an “ass” during court proceedings.

Judge Adams, who has held her position since 2007, has acknowledged her misconduct. The JQC is responsible for investigating complaints against judges and making recommendations for disciplinary actions to the Florida Supreme Court, which ultimately decides on such matters.

If the Supreme Court issues the public reprimand, it would formally censure Adams and reinforce the necessity for impartiality within the judiciary. The case underscores the critical importance of maintaining judicial decorum and the integrity of the court system.
