On Saturday, January 31, 2026, InkFreeNews reported that former Johnson County Judge Jeffrey Eggers has been barred from practicing law by the Indiana Supreme Court following a felony conviction related to impaired driving. The decision comes after Eggers was placed under an immediate interim suspension, prompted by action from the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission on Friday, January 23.

According to court documents, “The interim suspension shall continue until further order of this Court or final resolution of any resulting disciplinary action, provided no other suspension is in effect.”

The disciplinary action stems from Eggers’ conviction last summer for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, classified as a Level 6 felony. He received a sentence of home detention, according to online court filings. The felony conviction has been added to a documented history of alcohol-related driving cases involving the former judge.

In a separate incident, Eggers pleaded guilty in August 2023 to misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person. This case originated from an incident earlier in the year, which resulted in a one-year jail sentence, with a significant portion suspended to probation, and credit was granted for days already served.

Furthermore, Eggers faced charges in December 2022 involving multiple OWI-related offenses, including endangerment and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher. However, these charges were later dismissed.

Prior to his legal issues, Eggers had a long tenure in judicial office, spanning more than a decade. He was initially appointed to the Johnson County Superior Court in 1983. He then transitioned to the Circuit Court in 1987 and eventually left the bench in 1994 to pursue private practice. At the time of the 2022 charges,

Eggers was serving as a judge pro tempore in Morgan Superior Court, a position from which he was removed shortly before the case was filed.
