On Saturday, March 7, 2026, Eyewitness News reported that Fort Bend County Judge KP George is seeking to delay his impending money laundering trial. This effort involves appealing the court’s determination to retain District Attorney Brian Middleton on the case.
Earlier in February, a district court judge had decided that Middleton could continue with the case. George’s legal representatives are now challenging that ruling. Previously, George’s team accused Middleton of prosecutorial misconduct and politically driven retaliation. They alleged that Middleton endorsed fabricated social media posts linked to a scandal, demonstrating personal animosity toward George, citing messages and recordings as evidence.
The defense further claimed that Middleton suppressed potential evidence and permitted the deletion of crucial sections of a witness interview. George’s legal team had requested the case’s dismissal or, at a minimum, the disqualification of Middleton and his office from the trial.
The trial’s commencement is set against the backdrop of George’s recent defeat in the primary election by Daniel Wong. George, initially a Democrat, had switched affiliations to run as a Republican but finished last in a competitive primary race.
