On Friday, September 26, 2025, the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct announced that George J. Meyers, a Justice of the New Windsor Town Court in Orange County, agreed to resign from his position and will not seek judicial office in the future. This decision comes in lieu of further disciplinary proceedings before the Commission following complaints about his conduct.

A formal written complaint was served to Judge Meyers in January 2025, alleging he made discourteous and inappropriate comments towards court personnel and engaged in retaliatory conduct against court staff, another judge, and town officials with whom he had disagreements. Judge Meyers has denied these allegations.

According to the Commission, a resignation stipulation was executed on September 4, 2025, and accepted on September 18, 2025. His resignation is effective on December 31, 2025.

Commission Administrator Robert H. Tembeckjian stated that judges must be patient, dignified, and courteous in their official capacities. He added that persistent discourtesy and retaliation undermine respect for the courts and judiciary, and that Judge Meyers’ resignation brings the matter to an appropriate conclusion.

Meyers, who is not an attorney, has served as a Justice since 2018. His current term would have expired on December 31, 2026.
