On Friday, October 17, 2025, First Coast News reported that Judge Robert “Bert” Guy Jr. resigned from his position as a Brunswick Judicial Circuit judge following a DUI arrest at Wacko’s strip club in Jacksonville, Florida.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, prompting a response from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to the establishment located on Emerson Street.
According to the arrest report, a valet driver witnessed Guy, 48, driving a black Mercedes, collide with a parked truck in the parking lot, causing damage to its front bumper. The valet stated that after a brief exchange with the truck’s owner, Guy attempted to leave the scene but was reportedly too intoxicated to do so and required assistance to return the vehicle to a parking space. The owner of the damaged truck informed police that Guy allegedly offered him $500 in an attempt to resolve the matter privately.
The responding officer noted a strong smell of alcohol emanating from Guy, who also exhibited signs of intoxication such as swaying, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech. Guy subsequently failed field sobriety tests administered at the scene. Following his arrest, Guy was further charged with refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test. He was later released on bond.
Duval County court records indicate that the former judge has entered a plea of not guilty to all three misdemeanor charges related to the incident.
Guy’s resignation from the Brunswick Judicial Circuit, which encompasses Glynn, Camden, Appling, Jeff Davis, and Wayne counties in Georgia, was confirmed by the Office of Governor Brian Kemp on Thursday, October 16.
Prior to his resignation, Guy also held the position of president of the Council of Superior Court Judges of Georgia.
In a statement, Guy expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the 5th County Brunswick Judicial Circuit and acknowledged his judicial colleagues, staff, and the attorneys he worked with.
