On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, KPRC 2 reported that Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is facing political pressure following a controversial incident at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

In an exclusive interview with KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry, Hidalgo stated she has no regrets regarding her handling of the rodeo dispute, where she alleges she was manhandled by security while trying to access premium dirt-level seats during a Megan Moroney concert.

Hidalgo is rejecting calls for her resignation amidst the controversy, which has drawn criticism from political opponents, including Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, who proposed a resolution calling for Hidalgo to apologize or resign. The proposal is a direct result of the rodeo incident, though claims of physical mistreatment have not been substantiated by publicly released video or audio.

Amid the ongoing controversy, Hidalgo has shifted focus to raise concerns about delays and funding gaps in critical flood control projects in advance of hurricane season. Hidalgo stated that 28 flood control projects relying on federal funding are at risk of missing deadlines, potentially resulting in approximately $800 million being clawed back. These projects are funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as part of post-Hurricane Harvey relief. A spokesperson for the Harris County Flood Control District told KPRC 2 News that the district is confident about delivering the projects, with 11 expected to begin construction by the end of July.

Hidalgo also revealed that an additional 26 flood mitigation projects, totaling about $400 million, are currently paused indefinitely due to lack of funding. These projects include detention basins, channel improvements, and drainage infrastructure across Harris County.

Hidalgo has acknowledged the impact of rising construction costs, inflation, and budget constraints, stating that the budget is in a difficult position. She plans to push for reprioritizing county spending and has directed the Flood Control District to provide regular updates to the Commissioners Court. Hidalgo has urged residents to hold elected officials accountable for delayed or stalled projects.

The interview also addressed concerns about Hidalgo’s absences from recent Commissioners Court meetings, which she attributed to leading international trade missions aimed at boosting economic development. According to Hidalgo, these trips were funded through campaign dollars and have led to conversations about increased foreign investment interest.
