On Thursday, July 17, 2025, WHAS11 reported that Misty Noel, estranged wife of former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel, filed a motion requesting the removal of Judge Larry Medlock from her case in Clark County, Indiana.
The motion cites alleged bias by Medlock against Noel and her family. This development follows Noel’s guilty plea on July 3, 2025, to charges of theft and tax evasion, resulting in a six-year sentence, with one and a half years in custody and four and a half years on probation.
Noel’s motion claims Medlock displayed bias through specific actions. It references an April 9, 2024, contempt hearing for Jamey Noel, where Medlock reportedly broke his gavel block by slamming it forcefully. Additionally, at a May 3, 2025, car auction involving the Noels’ 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird, Medlock took the stage to reenact the gavel slam, an act Noel’s motion describes as showing “palpable pleasure.” The motion also notes Medlock’s remarks during Misty Noel’s sentencing and a July 7, 2025, order as evidence of impartiality concerns.
Medlock’s recent actions include scheduling an August 12, 2025, hearing to consider setting aside Noel’s guilty plea, prompted by an interview she gave to a Louisville television station. The judge stated the interview contradicted her court statements, suggesting she did not “knowingly and intentionally” commit theft. Noel and her attorney, Bart McMahon, argue her statements were taken out of context, emphasizing accountability in the interview.
Noel filed two additional motions: one to dismiss a potential contempt charge for alleged untruthfulness in court and another to cancel the August 12 hearing.
Medlock will decide whether to recuse himself, after which the remaining motions will be addressed.
