On Thursday, August 28, 2025, Warwick Dispatch reported that Judge Richard Guertin retired after serving Orange County for decades. Sheriff Arteta honored Guertin’s service during a tribute.

Guertin was a City of Middletown Court Judge for many years, handling misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic violations, city code issues, and civil cases. In 2023, he became an Orange County Court Judge, presiding over felony criminal cases, civil matters, and some family and surrogate proceedings.

Guertin was known for his legal knowledge and fair approach in court. Sheriff Arteta noted Guertin’s honorable service and impact on Orange County. The Sheriff’s Office thanked him and wished him well in retirement.

Guertin’s career focused on maintaining justice and serving the community. His retirement concludes a long tenure in Orange County’s judicial system.
