On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, My Bellingham Now reported that Skagit County Superior Court Judge Thomas Verge is retiring at the end of December, concluding a career spanning over three decades in the legal profession.
Verge’s departure marks the end of his service on the Superior Court bench, a position he was elected to in 2020. Prior to his role in the Superior Court, Verge served as a District Court Judge beginning in 2016.
Judge Verge’s connection to Whatcom County includes obtaining his bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University (WWU). He also served as both a deputy prosecuting attorney and as the Superior Court Commissioner in Whatcom County.
In anticipation of Verge’s retirement, Governor Bob Ferguson has appointed Skagit County Superior Court Commissioner Mary Crandall as his successor. Crandall is set to assume the position at the beginning of the new year.
To honor Judge Verge’s extensive career, a retirement celebration is scheduled for December 19 at the Skagit County Courthouse.
