On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, KLFY reported that protesters gathered outside the Lafayette Parish Courthouse, demanding the resignation of 15th Judicial District Judge Royal Colbert. The demonstrators accused Colbert of past and ongoing misconduct, including allegations of extortion, corruption, and bribery.
Civil rights activist Celina Charles stated that the protest aims to hold Colbert accountable for his actions, asserting that he is part of a corrupt judicial system that victimizes individuals. “One thing I notice about Judge Royal is he steals information so people can’t speak on what’s being done wrong in the courthouse,” she claimed.
Another protester, Kerry Price, shared his personal experience, stating that he has been a victim of Colbert’s actions and has witnessed misconduct over the years. He expressed frustration at the misuse of power, suggesting that those in authority believe they can shield their wrongdoing at taxpayers’ expense.
Charles emphasized that the movement would persist until justice is achieved, stating, “We’re going to continue this call until we get justice, whether he resigns or is held by the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana.”
Colbert’s office has not provided any comments regarding the allegations or the protests.
