On Monday, January 12, 2026, the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported that Judge Mike Johnson recused himself from the trespassing and harassment case, CR250436, involving Mayor Cody Bass, during a hearing in Tahoe Justice Court.
Bass was arrested in September on these charges and appeared in court with his defense attorney, Adam Spicer.
Spicer indicated that the recusal was the main point addressed during the proceedings. He also challenged the $1,978 bail amount set for Bass, deeming it excessive and requesting a partial refund. Judge Johnson postponed the decision regarding the bail amount until the next court date.
Bass is now scheduled to appear before a different judge on March 2 at 1:30 p.m.
