On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, WYMT reported that the federal trial for Howard Keith Hall, a suspended circuit judge in Kentucky, commenced on November 10. Hall faces serious charges, including mail fraud and theft of government funds, following an indictment by a federal grand jury earlier in the year.

The charges stem from accusations that Hall allegedly paid an individual over $440,000 in salary and benefits for what prosecutors describe as “little to no work” performed as an assistant county attorney. The specifics of the alleged scheme remain under scrutiny as the trial unfolds.

Prior to the trial, Hall’s defense team attempted to have the charges dismissed. In October, they filed an appeal with a federal judge. However, the judge ultimately rejected the defense’s request, clearing the way for the trial to proceed.
