On Monday, July 7, 2025, Tennessee Courts reported that Judge Mike Spitzer of the 32nd Judicial District Circuit Court has officially retired. Judge Spitzer, who began his judicial career in 2018, initially expressed reluctance to take on the role, preferring his established law practice.

During his tenure, Judge Spitzer served the 21st Judicial District, which includes Hickman, Lewis, Perry, and Williamson counties. Due to the complexities of serving both rural and urban populations, a new judicial position was created to address the needs of the district. Judge Spitzer was selected for this role and ran unopposed for reelection in 2020.

In 2022, the 32nd Judicial District was established, enabling a more effective representation of the rural counties. Judge Spitzer noted that the creation of this district was a significant achievement, as it had been 45 years since a new judicial district was formed in the area. He subsequently ran for election in the new district and won.

Throughout his judicial career, Judge Spitzer emphasized the importance of understanding the socio-economic dynamics of the communities he served. He valued his relationships with fellow judges and the connections he made with the public. A key highlight of his career was his involvement in a drug court program, where he witnessed the positive impact of judicial initiatives on individuals’ lives.

In retirement, Judge Spitzer plans to continue his commitment to community service. He has developed a curriculum called “Parent Enrichment Gold Star Parents,” aimed at preventing children from entering the court system by fostering better parenting practices. He hopes to present this curriculum to other judges to share his insights and methodologies.

Looking ahead, Judge Spitzer intends to spend quality time with his wife, Dana, and focus on personal projects, emphasizing the importance of family in this new chapter of his life.
