On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, KTXS News reported that Judge Alan Shane Britton of Brown County will remain suspended without pay, following an order from the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct. The decision comes after Britton’s initial suspension on November 25, 2025, stemming from an indictment for several misdemeanor and felony charges.

The indictment against Britton includes multiple counts, such as abuse of official capacity, a Class A misdemeanor, and hindering apprehension of prosecution, also a Class A misdemeanor. He also faces charges for tampering with a government document, assault of a public servant, and tampering with a witness in a family violence case, all classified as third-degree felonies.

Following his suspension, Britton requested a post-suspension hearing before the Commission on December 5, 2025. During a session on December 23, 2025, Britton and his legal counsel argued that his continued service as the chief executive officer of Brown County would not negatively impact public confidence in the judiciary.

However, the Commission ultimately ruled that Judge Britton did not adequately demonstrate that his continued service would not jeopardize the interests of parties involved in court proceedings under his jurisdiction or impair public confidence in the judiciary. As a result, the suspension without pay will remain in effect.
