On Monday, January 6, 2025, the Business Times reported that Donald Trump has publicly accused the prosecutor and judge overseeing his criminal case of bias. The sentencing for Trump, who is facing multiple felony charges, is scheduled to take place before he assumes the presidency. Trump contends that the charges against him are politically motivated and part of an effort by the Biden administration to undermine him.

In a series of posts on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed his frustration with Judge Juan Merchan, who mandated that sentencing occur prior to Trump’s inauguration. This decision has sparked controversy, particularly in light of an “interesting addendum” included in the judge’s filing, which was highlighted by a former prosecutor earlier that day.

Trump further criticized the prosecutorial conduct of District Attorney Alvin Bragg, alleging that Bragg had no intention of bringing charges against him regardless of the circumstances. Trump expressed particular ire toward Mark Pomerantz for his actions and the things that he did.. He claimed that the Biden/Harris Department of Justice pressured Bragg to construct a case aimed at humiliating him, though he provided no evidence to support this assertion.

Additionally, Trump voiced concerns over a gag order imposed by the judge, which he claims prevents him from discussing the judge’s alleged conflicts of interest. He stated that many legal experts believe there is no substantial case against him. Trump accused the judge of fabricating both the facts and the law in a manner similar to what he described as other politically motivated prosecutions in New York.

Trump warned that the legal troubles he is facing are contributing to an exodus of businesses from New York, taking with them significant job opportunities and tax revenues. He characterized the legal system as “broken” and claimed that businesses are wary of becoming entangled in what he termed a “quicksand” situation. He reiterated his stance that the case against him is an orchestrated effort to target a political opponent.
