On Saturday, April 20, 2024, The Post Millennial reported that former President Donald Trump called for Judge Juan Merchan to be removed from his trial in New York City.

Trump is facing allegations that he falsified financial records related to hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels in 2016. In a statement released on his Truth Social account, Trump slammed the upcoming trial as a “scam rushed trial” taking place in a heavily Democratic area. He argued that if criminal charges were warranted, the case could have been brought forward years ago.

The former president took issue with the trial taking place right before the 2024 presidential election. Trump is widely expected to run against incumbent Joe Biden this cycle. He called Biden “the worst and most incompetent president ever.”

Trump called Judge Merchan, who is presiding over the case, “possibly the most conflicted judge in judicial history.” He said Merchan must immediately be removed from overseeing the trial due to an alleged conflict of interest. Trump has long argued the trial is unfair and politically motivated.

Last week, jury selection was completed with seven men and five women finalized. The jury pool features people from a variety of professional backgrounds. Trump previously labeled the trial “rigged” and claimed the prosecution team has ties to the White House and Department of Justice due to their connections to the Biden administration.

Merchan has placed a gag order on Trump, barring him from making public comments about the upcoming case. However, Trump has continued speaking out, arguing he has a First Amendment right to speak freely. He maintains that he and his team did not commit any wrongdoing in the matter concerning Stormy Daniels’ hush money payment.
