On Friday, January 10, 2025, the Daily Beast reported that the MAGA movement reacted with outrage following the sentencing of Donald Trump, who has been declared a convicted felon. The backlash came after Trump was sentenced in connection with a hush-money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, a claim he has consistently denied.

Despite receiving no punishment from Judge Juan Merchan, who granted Trump an unconditional discharge, his supporters quickly voiced their anger over what they viewed as an unjust legal action. Trump took to Truth Social to express his indignation, labeling the proceedings a “Radical Democrats” witch hunt and reiterating familiar grievances about perceived bias and corruption in the justice system. He concluded his tirade with a promise to appeal the ruling, describing the event as a “despicable charade.”

Prominent MAGA figures joined in the outcry. Commentator Charlie Kirk, shortly after the hearing, called for investigations into those who targeted Trump, declaring that “justice is coming.” His remarks resonated with supporters who feel aggrieved by the legal developments.

Mike Davis, an attorney and advisor to Trump, also amplified the rhetoric during a far-right livestream, warning that Democrats would soon find themselves in a vulnerable position. “Right now, the Democrats think they’re the hunters… but guess what, on Jan. 20, at noon, they’re going to become the hunted,” he said.

Trump’s criticisms have frequently targeted Judge Merchan, along with high-profile Democratic leaders such as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene specifically criticized Judge Merchan, accusing him of abusing his power to undermine Trump. On X, she stated that the judge and Democrats do not recognize the true threats to democracy.

Representative Nancy Mace also condemned the legal actions against Trump, labeling them as “corrupt.” She suggested that the timing of the sentencing was intended to tarnish Trump’s reputation just days before his inauguration. “I’m with the convicted felon. #MAGA,” she posted, affirming her loyalty to Trump.

Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, who had Trump’s endorsement during his campaign, expressed his anger about the trial, asserting that the only crime committed occurred in the courtroom. He labeled the entire process as a sham.

Representative Ronnie Jackson voiced similar sentiments, branding the sentencing a “SHAM TRIAL and a HOAX SENTENCING!” He expressed confidence that Trump would ultimately prevail, stating, “Trump will win in the end and America wins in 10 days when we get Trump back!!”

Trump’s sentencing followed his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business documents related to the hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels. Although he will not face prison time, fines, or probation, Trump has become the first convicted felon to serve as president.
