On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, FOX 5 Atlanta reported that a DeKalb County Superior Court judge is facing significant backlash following a controversial social media post regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The judge, Stacey Hydrick, is under scrutiny after her comments, which she has since deleted, addressed the recent return of the remains of an Israeli mother and her two sons who were abducted during a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

The case of Shiri Bibas, her husband, and their children, who were taken from their home in Israel’s Nir Oz kibbutz, has drawn widespread attention. The remains of Bibas and her sons were returned to Israel recently, prompting Judge Hydrick to express her emotions about the incident on social media. However, her remarks have been condemned by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) of Georgia, which accused her of exhibiting bias against Palestinians and Muslims. The organization has publicly called for Judge Hydrick’s resignation in light of her comments.

In response to the criticism, Judge Hydrick issued a statement acknowledging her emotional reaction to the video footage of the October attack. She emphasized her humanity as a judge and stated her commitment to introspection. Hydrick also assured the public of her dedication to the Rules of Judicial Conduct, expressing her willingness to recuse herself from any case where her impartiality could be reasonably questioned.

Judge Hydrick, who was appointed to the DeKalb Superior Court by Governor Brian Kemp in 2019, previously served as a state court judge. Her recent comments have sparked a debate about the responsibilities of judges in maintaining impartiality, particularly in sensitive matters involving ongoing conflicts.
