On Friday, January 30, 2026, WOAI reported that Judge Rosie Speedlin-Gonzalez was taken into custody after allegedly restraining an attorney without consent. According to WOAI, the Texas County Court at Law Judge was arrested around noon on Thursday.

An indictment reported that Gonzalez intentionally or knowingly restrained a Texas attorney without consent in December 2024, while acting as a judge. The documents reviewed by WOAI allege that the suspect substantially interfered with the attorney’s liberty.

Judge Speedlin-Gonzalez appeared in court for arraignment on charges of unlawful restraint by a peace officer or judge, a felony, and official oppression, a misdemeanor.

The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion for recusal, leading to the appointment of Special Prosecutor Brian Cromeens from Goliad County, Texas. The DA’s office stated, “We are prohibited from providing any further comment on the matter,” when approached by reporters with WOAI.

Speedlin-Gonzalez, who presides over the Reflejo Court, is currently being paid, but her caseload is reportedly being reassigned to other judges.
