On Monday, March 16, 2026, Fox News reported that former President Donald Trump called for the removal of Judge James Boasberg from all cases involving his administration. In a Truth Social post on Sunday night, Trump accused Boasberg of exhibiting bias against the Republican Party and his administration.
Trump described Boasberg as “a Wacky, Nasty, Crooked, and totally Out of Control Judge” who, in Trump’s view, suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) and has been targeting him and his allies for years. He further stated that Boasberg has consistently displayed open, flagrant, and extreme partisan bias and contempt against Republicans and the Trump Administration.
Trump urged that Boasberg be removed from all cases pertaining to him to preserve the integrity of the Judiciary. He also suggested that Boasberg should face disciplinary action, along with other judges he considers corrupt.
Trump criticized Boasberg’s handling of the “Too Late” Powell case, claiming it was driven by politics rather than the law. He was referring to Jerome Powell, the chair of the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System.
Boasberg is the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Trump asserted that Boasberg is the opposite of what a judge should be and should focus on justice and fairness instead of his own and the Democrats’ political agenda.
Fox News Digital reached out to Boasberg’s chambers for comment but was informed that the judge had no comment. Trump has been a vocal critic of Boasberg.
Trump’s recent criticism follows Boasberg’s move earlier this month in a case regarding subpoenas served on the Federal Reserve Board. The court questioned whether prosecutors issued the subpoenas for a proper purpose and concluded that they did not.
The court found abundant evidence that the subpoenas’ primary purpose was to harass and pressure Powell to either yield to the President or resign and allow for a Fed Chair who would. The court noted that the government offered no evidence that Powell committed any crime other than displeasing the President and concluded that the justifications for the subpoenas were mere pretexts. The court granted the Board’s Motion to Quash.
