On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, WYMT reported that a Pikeville judge has recused himself from a court case involving Chad Blackburn.
Blackburn was arrested in July 2024 following a fatal crash that killed one person and left another seriously injured. He faces charges of vehicular homicide while under the influence, first-degree assault, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
On Monday, Judge Eddy Coleman stepped down from the case, citing a conflict of interest. As a result, a new judge will be appointed to oversee the proceedings, though the replacement has not yet been named.
Coleman did not address any additional motions during Monday’s session.
Blackburn is scheduled to appear in court next month for an evidentiary hearing, which will be presided over by the newly appointed judge.
