On Thursday, March 5, 2026, ABC 7 News reported that a trial date had been set for Donald Ray McCray, who is accused of sending threatening letters and envelopes containing white powder to federal judges and courthouses. The trial is scheduled to begin on April 14.

McCray is accused of mailing envelopes containing white powder to federal courthouses in Amarillo and Fort Worth, allegedly intending to create the impression that the substance was a biological agent like anthrax. He also faces charges related to letters containing threats sent to federal judges in Fort Worth and Brooklyn, New York.

At the time of the alleged offenses, McCray was serving a sentence at the Robertson Unit in Abilene for a 1992 murder conviction in Dallas County.

Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, who was among the targets of McCray’s threats, recused himself from the case in July 2025. Following Kacsmaryk’s recusal, the case was reassigned to District Judge James Wesley Hendrix in Lubbock.
