On Friday, October 4, 2024, KOAT.com reported that a magistrate judge in McKinley County, New Mexico, has been suspended by the state Supreme Court.

Judge Brent Detsoi faced serious allegations, including 23 violations of the judicial code of conduct.

Among the accusations, it is claimed that Detsoi asked defendants about their race during court proceedings. If a defendant identified as Native American, he reportedly dismissed their traffic citations automatically.

Additionally, he is accused of requiring a defendant to stand for a bench trial without legal representation.

The Supreme Court has imposed an indefinite suspension on Detsoi, and he will not receive pay during this period.
