On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the San Antonio Express-News reported that Katrina Sizenbach, facing child abuse charges, is seeking the removal of Texas Judge Frank Castro from her case, citing a potential conflict of interest.

Sizenbach filed a motion for recusal and disqualification, arguing that her friendship with Bexar County Clerk Lucy Adame Clark, who is being challenged by Judge Castro’s wife, Cynthia Castro, in the upcoming 2026 election, could compromise the impartiality of the proceedings.

Sizenbach, 40, claims to have actively supported Clark in past political campaigns and is currently involved in her re-election efforts. She is facing three counts of injury to a child with intent to cause serious bodily harm. The indictment alleges that on September 22, 2022, Sizenbach struck a 14-year-old girl in the back of the neck and forearm with a hard metal object, and also kicked her in the shins.

Arrested on May 9, Sizenbach was released on a $15,000 bond. If convicted on the charges, she could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Sizenbach’s motion expresses concern that her close relationship with Clark could create a conflict for Judge Castro as he presides over her jury trial.

Judge Castro has declined to voluntarily recuse himself from the case. Consequently, the motion will now be reviewed by 4th Administrative Judicial Region Judge Sid Harle, who will determine whether Judge Castro should be removed from the case.
