On Thursday, March 27, 2025, Reuters reported that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi made controversial statements during an interview on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.” She asserted that numerous judges who have ruled against actions taken by President Donald Trump’s administration are unable to remain impartial and should be removed from their positions.
Bondi emphasized her belief that these judges are obstructing the President’s agenda, claiming, “Many judges need to be removed.” She criticized the judiciary’s role, stating that district judges are attempting to exert control over national policies. Specifically, she identified three U.S. district judges—Ana Reyes, James Boasberg, and Beryl Howell—who have issued temporary blocks on various Trump administration initiatives.
Among these, Bondi highlighted Judge Boasberg, who had ordered a halt to the administration’s use of wartime powers to deport migrants. She argued that he should not preside over any cases involving the administration due to his previous rulings. This statement follows Trump’s past calls for Boasberg’s impeachment, which drew a response from Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Roberts noted that impeachment should not be a reaction to disagreements with judicial decisions, reinforcing the principle of judicial independence.
The U.S. Constitution stipulates that judges can only be impeached for treason, bribery, or other serious offenses. For a judge to be removed from office, the House of Representatives must pass articles of impeachment by a simple majority, followed by a two-thirds majority vote in the Senate to convict.
Bondi’s comments reflect ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and the federal judiciary, which serves as a check on executive power.
