On Friday, March 28, 2025, WISN 12 NEWS reported that Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Judge Susan Crawford of Dane County recused herself from a lawsuit involving Elon Musk, shortly before a campaign event in Kenosha.

Crawford revealed that she was randomly assigned to the case through Wisconsin’s court case assignment system, known as CCAP. The lawsuit, filed by Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, accuses Musk of violating state bribery laws.

Musk has been a significant figure in Wisconsin’s political landscape, with his affiliated groups contributing over $20 million to support conservative candidate Brad Schimel for the state Supreme Court. Judge Crawford expressed concern regarding the implications of this financial backing, particularly in relation to Schimel’s candidacy.

“I hope they understand what it says about Brad Schimel. The fact that he is allowing that and seamlessly cosigning that process,” Crawford said.

In response to the situation, State Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley, who is set to retire, also voiced her disapproval of Musk’s influence, stating that the integrity of the court system must be preserved. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the values and identity of the state against external pressures.
