On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Courier & Press reported that the wife of a Southern Illinois judge has been arrested and charged with his murder. Megan S. Valentine, 44, of Albion, Illinois, faces several serious charges in connection with the death of her husband, Judge Michael J. Valentine, who was 41 years old and served on the Illinois Second Judicial Circuit Court.
The incident occurred last week, prompting a response from the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office to a residence located on County Road 600 in Albion. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of Judge Valentine lying outside the home. Following this discovery, Megan Valentine was taken into custody by law enforcement.
According to a news release from the Illinois State Police, Megan Valentine is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated domestic battery. All of these charges are classified as felonies.
The investigation into the fatal shooting was led by the Illinois State Police after a request from the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office. The findings of the investigation were submitted to the Illinois State’s Attorney Appellate Prosecutor’s Office, resulting in the formal filing of charges.
Megan Valentine is currently being held at the White County Jail in Illinois.
