On Monday, September 22, 2025, WLTX reported that federal investigators are seeking potential victims of James B. Gosnell Jr., a suspended Charleston County Magistrate. Gosnell was arrested on September 16, 2025, and charged with possession of child sexual abuse materials, which led to his immediate suspension.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina has issued a public notice, urging anyone with information to contact authorities. The notice specifically asks anyone whose child, or a child they know, was ever alone with or held by James Gosnell to notify the Homeland Security Investigations’ tip line. Tips can be sent via email to [email protected].
The investigation into Gosnell began following a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Homeland Security investigators traced multiple financial transactions to a known distributor of child sexual abuse material located in the United Kingdom.
A search of Gosnell’s property led to the seizure of a flash drive containing numerous videos and images of child sexual abuse. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the seized material included depictions of prepubescent minors, infants, and toddlers engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Gosnell, who is not an attorney, had served as a Charleston County magistrate for over 20 years, presiding over bond and preliminary hearings.
